Following Up Doesn't Have To Feel Awkward

Hey there!

We hope you’re having a great week so far. This week, we wanted to talk about something that many small business owners avoid — following up.

It can feel uncomfortable, easy to forget, or even a little pushy… but when done thoughtfully, it’s actually one of the best ways to build stronger client relationships and keep opportunities from slipping away.

The Art of the Follow Up

A lot of business owners assume that if someone is interested, they’ll reach back out on their own. But the truth is — people get busy. Emails get buried. Life happens.

Following up isn’t about pressuring people. It’s about staying connected, being helpful, and reminding people that you’re there when they’re ready.

Follow-Up Tip #1: Keep It Simple

A good follow-up doesn’t need to be long or overly polished.

Sometimes something as simple as:

  • “Just checking in!”

  • “Wanted to see if you had any questions.”

  • “Thought of you and wanted to follow up.”

…is enough to restart the conversation.

Follow-Up Tip #2: Don’t Wait Too Long

One of the biggest mistakes business owners make is waiting too long to follow up.

A quick check-in:

  • after a consultation

  • after sending a quote

  • after completing a project

can keep the momentum going and show clients you genuinely care.

Follow-Up Tip #3: Focus on Being Helpful, Not Salesy

The best follow-ups feel personal and supportive — not like a copy-and-paste sales pitch.

Instead of only asking for business, try:

  • sharing a helpful resource

  • offering a quick tip

  • checking how things are going

  • reminding them you’re available if needed

People remember businesses that make them feel valued.

Why Follow-Ups Matter More Than You Think

Sometimes the difference between a lost lead and a long-term client is simply staying top of mind.

Following up builds trust, keeps communication open, and shows consistency — and consistency is one of the biggest things people look for when deciding who they want to work with.

A thoughtful follow-up today can easily turn into a future project, referral, or repeat client down the road.Building relationships in business doesn’t always require huge marketing strategies or complicated systems. Sometimes, it’s simply about staying connected, checking in, and making people feel remembered.Happy connecting!
